Active Living Coordinator

The Tatamagouche Community Wellness Committee is accepting applications for an Active Living Coordinator. Our vision is a healthy, vibrant, integrated, and complete community where citizens can live, work, and play in an environment that supports a high quality of life.

The main function of this position is to lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive physical activity action plan for the village of Tatamagouche and area.  A comprehensive strategy uses a whole of community approach and will address policy, built, natural and social environments that support physical activity in key settings, will leverage social marketing initiatives as appropriate and will support the least active to be more active.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Active Living Coordinator will focus on opportunities to engage children, youth, adults and aging population in physical activity including the general population:

• To champion the Tatamagouche and Area Physical Activity Action Plan
• To provide direct and indirect physical activity programs and opportunities to fill gaps and avoid duplication of existing services.
• To support community cohesion by providing access to physical activity and recreation opportunities.

A one-year contract with opportunity for extension. With anticipated start date of May 2024 to April 2025. Salary ranges from 37k to 45k. Monday to Friday with potential evenings and weekends as needed.

TATAMAGOUCHE & AREA PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ACTION PLAN 2022

Brighter Community Planning & Consulting, on behalf of the YWCA Halifax, has applied for amendments to the Tatamagouche Land Use By-law so that a Commercial Day Care can be opened at 40 Blair Avenue.

The Tatamagouche Planning Advisory Committee will meet in the Tatamagouche Fire Hall at 202 Main Street at 3:00 pm on Monday, November 27, 2023, for a public meeting to review and discuss the proposed amendments necessary to allow this application to proceed.

There is currently an open Commission Seat, which will be filled at the next monthly meeting, Thursday, November 9th at 7:30 PM.

Plan It Colchester Municipal Planning Strategy Engagement

The Municipality of the County of Colchester is launching Plan It Colchester – a project to develop a County-Wide Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS) and Land Use Bylaw (LUB). Much of the County is unplanned, resulting in an organic form of growth and development over the years. Colchester, like the rest of Nova Scotia, has seen a recent population increase, and with a growing population comes pressure for new development. Without planning in place, communities have no say in where and how their communities grow and change. 

Recognizing the changing dynamics of development in Nova Scotia, the Provincial Government passed Bill 58 in 2018, an amendment to the Municipal Government Act that requires every municipality to develop and adopt planning that meets the minimum planning standards. This project will bring Colchester County into compliance with the new provincial regulations, while also presenting an important and exciting opportunity for residents to help shape the vision for the future of their communities. Plan It Colchester will rely heavily on feedback from the community to help shape the vision, guiding principles and policies that will determine how the Municipality grows and develops.
